Dear Footsteps,

I am an open lesbian to my very religious and Christian family. I came out to them 5 months ago and until now they still can't accept the fact fully. However, since they're very new to topics such as sexual orientations and gender identities, I give them time to adjust to my newfound self.

Don't get me wrong. I love my family. What irks me is that the times I wear running shoes to go out and meet my friends, they tell me to wear heels and girly sandals along with floral patterned dresses. They think it's a symbol of being "too manly". I get it that they still can't open their eyes to the truth but do they have to go that far?

I found this website during my time of need and desperation. Shoes have been with me since my youth as a way to express myself. You have inspired me to embrace myself and stay strong for my family has to one day accept who I am.

With much regards,

Kaye
